VALE Peter Hayward

Category: AINDT News

It is with much sadness that we inform members the passing of Peter Hayward on March 23rd at his family home.

A number of NDTA Executive & past Executive members were present at the very moving service the following week, to pay tribute to the man that Peter was and for his efforts in our world of NDT as well as others.

Peter’s interest in all things Engineering began like many, during his years in the RAF and he found his true calling when introduced to the world of NDT, a little later in his career. Peter was responsible for training and mentoring many people in the industry over his extensive years with Heavy Engineerring Research Associatioin (HERA) and involvement in the early stages of the establishment of the Certification Board for Inspection Personnel (CBIP).

Peter served on the NDTA Executive for many years, most lately holding the chairmanship from the AGM of 2010, until 2017, as well as a long period as the IAEA National Project Co-ordinator.

The service was very fitting, with some humorous anecdotes as well as some moving moments from family and friends.

This sad news has spread fast amongst the local and internal NDT industry with a number of global leaders in the field of NDT expressing their condolences (including the ICNDT Chairman and the APFNDT Chairman) both of whom had met Peter personally over the years.

Our friends within the AINDT have also expressed their kind thoughts, and will be printing a eulogy to Peter in an upcoming Journal.
