In this message I would like to discuss standards, as the IRT community have been looking to establish standards for electrical surveys in the Australian setting.

A review of published Australian Standards have been conducted over the last 12 months by AUSPTA. This review established AS 2467-2008 Maintenance of Electrical Switchgear as an appropriate standard for updating, due to the age of the standard. This standard is commonly referenced in contracts and has references to various state regulations to safety.

A project proposal for review of AS 2467-2008 has been submitted to Standards Australia. This project proposal also includes enhancement of the infra-red testing section of the standard with recommendations as to the qualification of testing personal. It is recommended, in the project proposal, for testing operators to hold Certification to ISO 18436 Part 7, as a new inclusion in the standard. Updates will be provided as to the project proposal approval and status in later editions of the CMCB news.

The CMC Board will continue throughout the year to improve and further develop the certification scheme. Updates will be provided during the year in the journal and e-news.Certifications during 2018 showed continued growth to the scheme. With future marketing plans and collaboration with various industry networks and events, I see this growth continuing in 2019.
